How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I fell in love with speech-language therapy while taking dual classes required for Deaf Education and speech. The variety of disorders and the range of severity/ages intrigued me. That variety has kept speech-language therapy exciting.
I have been a speech-language pathologist (SLP) for over 30 years. May 2010, I retired from Marietta City Schools. Private practice clinics contracted with me over a number of my summer breaks, and I contracted with a Charter and a private preschool-12 school for a year before I decided to open my own clinic.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Being a small business, The Communication Spot is independent and able to meet the needs of the child and family.
While employing evidences based therapy practices, I find creative and motivating activities so the children want to come for therapy.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
The Communication Spot plans on maintaining just one location.
Therapy may also be provided at the child's day care or home.

The Communication Spot is located just off Stilesboro Road in Hedgerose Commons Business Park.
Hedgerose Commons Business Park is between Acworth Due West and Mars Hill.
If coming from Acworth Due West, turn left onto Stone Village Lane (just after Hedgerose Commons subdivision). Make an immediate left into the business park. The Communication Spot is in Suite 202.
If coming from Mars Hill, turn right onto Stone Village Lane. Make an immediate left into the business park. The Communication Spot is in Suite 202.
What type of payments do you accept?
The Communication Spot accepts cash, checks, and credit card payments.
Insurance Accepted: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Health Care, and Cigna.
If parents verify that their insurance company will pay for therapy, we will assist them with paperwork for reimbursement with other insurance coverage.
